THE SOUL THAT SINNETH SHALL DIE

Ezekiel 18:4 tells us, “...The soul that sinneth shall die.”

Let me give you an example of this.  The destruction of the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah in Genesis 19 is an example of “the soul that sinneth shall die.”

Sodom and Gomorrah were cities in the Bible where the people practiced abominations in the eyes of God.  The abomination was homosexuality and because of this God rained fire and brimstone upon them and destroyed everyone, except Lot and his family, because “the soul that sinneth shall die.”

There is no question about it.  A sinning soul will die eventually and end up in hellfire.  Sin destroys souls and takes them to hell, but turning away from sin will save a soul.

THE WICKED

Ezekiel 18:20-22 tells us,

“20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him. 21 But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. 22 All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.”

Do you want to inherit eternal life?  Then repent, give your life to Jesus, be baptized, and obey Him.  Do you want to live forever after you die?  Then repent, give your life to Jesus, be baptized, and obey Him because “the soul that sinneth shall die.”

Ezekiel 18:27 tells us,

“27 Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.”

A soul is saved by repenting, turning from her/his wickedness, and doing that which is lawful and right in the eyes of the Lord.

THE RIGHTEOUS

Ezekiel 18:24-26 tells us,

24 But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die. 26 When a righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth in them; for his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.

A soul dies and goes to hell when a righteous man turns from his righteousness to commit iniquity and dies in it without repenting.

This chapter tells us all the good that he has done will be forgotten and remembered no more.

The good news is that God has no pleasure in the wicked dying and going to hell (Ezekiel 18:23) He wants all to be saved.  You can be saved if you will repent and come back to Jesus or give your life to Jesus, repent, be baptized, and obey Him.

John 3:16

16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Believe in the Lord Jesus and live. Give your life to Jesus today!
