SALT OF THE EARTH

We don’t use salt in our house when we cook anymore, but I realize from experience that salt is the best seasoning for flavor.  I used to criticize the chefs who just seasoned with salt and pepper whenever I watched cooking programs with my girls; but now I understand why they did it because there is nothing better than salt for seasoning and no wonder we have been called the “salt of the earth.”   Matthew 5: 13 tells us, “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.” Jesus warns us that it is possible for us to lose our savor and become something no longer acceptable to God and worthy of honor; but something worthy of dishonor and rejection by God--hence the phrase “to be trodden under foot of men.” Our taste in the mouth of the Master can become so distasteful that he has no other choice but to spit us out like a burning hot
