THE LUST THEREOF

I John 2:17 tells us, “And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”

Lusts are described in Ephesian 2:3 as the desires of the flesh and the mind, and we are told in I John 2:17 that they will pass away with the world--they are temporary things; and we should not invest our God-given time in them.  Instead we should use our God-given time to do the will of God.

Numbers 11 tells us a story about a group of people who consistently “lusted” and was eventually destroyed by God.  Their lusting was not the lusting that relates to the sexual; but it was the lusting for food.

The Holy Spirit made me understand that they were afraid that they were going to die of hunger and this caused them to go a lusting for the food of Egypt.
Tell your sisters to be careful of fear.  Fear can cause you to go a lusting for the wrong things.

God had provided them with “manna” from heaven for food; but their lack of trust in God and lack of faith in what God was doing in their lives caused them to go a lusting for the food they used to eat in Egypt: the fish, the cucumbers, the melons, the leeks, the onions and the garlic.

Tell your sisters to be careful of fear.  Fear will block your vision of what God is doing.  Tell them that whatever God is doing is always greater and better than anything you could find in Egypt.

Tell your sisters to stop lusting after the things of the world.  Tell them to desire the things of the kingdom.  Tell them, the food of Egypt may look better, but it ain’t better than anything God gives to you.  Tell them don’t let the lusts of the world destroy them.

Mark 4:18,19 tells us “And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, 19.  And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

This is the reason why God forbids lusting after these things because it makes the fruitful become unfruitful by choking the word of God in us. Choking is not a quick process.  It is a slow process and you probably only notice it when you no longer have fruits.

The word of God is the watered soil by which the tree brings forth fruits.  Where there is no word of God, fruits will not come forth.  Where there is little word of God little fruits will come forth.  Where there is much word of God, much fruits will come forth.  The knowledge of God is important for growth and bringing forth much fruits.

Proverbs 9:10 tells us, The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the Holy is understanding.

When you have the knowledge of the Holy, you have understanding, when you have understanding you do the things that God tells you to do, and in the process of time fruits will begin to come forth.   Whenever you become a tree that is no longer bringing forth fruits, the Father will take you away since you are no longer useful to him.

John 15:8 tells us that the Father is glorified when we bear much fruit.

John 15:2 tells us, Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
