BE NOT IGNORANT!
2 Peter 3:8
“But, beloved,
be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand
years, and a thousand years as one day.”
In
this epistle, the Apostle Peter reminds us that in the last days scoffers will
arise according to the prophecies given before by the holy prophets as well as
the commandments of the apostles of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
These
scoffers, some of whom will be well-known men and women in the body of Christ, will
go around saying, “Where is the promise
of His coming? For since the Fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they
were from the beginning of the creation.”
In other words, they will mock the coming of the Lord Jesus and anyone
who talks about His coming.
The
Apostle Peter also lets us know that these men and women “walk after their own
lusts” (2 Peter 3:3). They steal from the poor to make themselves richer. They form alliances and associations against ministries
of God. They oppose the will of God in
the Body of Christ. They only care about
themselves. They are self-willed (stubborn or
obstinate willfulness, as in pursuing one's own wishes, aims, etc.), and couldn’t care less about what the Father
thinks.
They
rebel against anything threatening their positions and exposing the truth. They have made themselves GODS in the earth
by making decisions for God. They do not
believe in judgments and do not have the fear of the Lord. They delight in doing wrong. They portray the
Father as a fuzzy cuddly teddy bear that sits on a chair and allows people to
do whatever they want, whenever they want, without any consequences.
Apostle
Peter says that they are “willingly
ignorant” of the fact that the word of God which destroyed the world before
with water is now preserving this world until the Day of Judgment and Perdition
of ungodly men, when the world will be destroyed by fire (2 Peter 3:
5-13). Meaning that they know about this, but they have made a choice to ignore the
truth in order to practice evil and continue in their lustful ways.
Therefore
the Apostle Peter, by the Spirit of God, finds it necessary to remind us NOT TO
BE IGNORANT!--Lacking in knowledge and unlearned--but to have an understanding
instead that God’s calendar is not like our calendar. God counts 1000 years as a day. He did it this way because He is
long-suffering towards us and is merciful, and is not willing that ANY should
perish, but that ALL should come to repentance and be saved. This is why He has not come yet. Therefore REPENT and CHANGE or GIVE YOUR LIFE
TO JESUS AND FOLLOW HIM before it is too late.
Grace and
peace be multiplied to you through the knowledge of God.
